Makeup Monday: How To (Properly) Apply Glitter Nail Polish

❤ By Hannah Blu

We can’t help but go gaga for glitter, especially when it comes to nail polish. But the messy, time-consuming process of applying (and removing) glitter lacquer often deters us from rocking the blinged-out shades we love. It’s downright exhausting having to meticulously maneuver each glitter particle into place!

With Halloween and the holiday season approaching, we needed a solution, stat. So when we learned about this amazing manicurist hack, we just had to share it! The trick is to apply glitter polish with a sponge rather than the included brush. The sponge soaks up excess polish, resulting in a perfectly opaque glitter layer. Follow these easy steps for swoon-worthy sparkly nails!

What You’ll Need:

  • A smoothing base coat
  • A peel-off nail polish barrier (we used Kiesque Liquid Palisade, but any brand of liquid latex will do)
  • A triangle makeup sponge
  • Glitter nail polish (we used Deborah Lippmann “Happy Birthday”)
  • A high-shine, quick-dry top coat

What You’ll Do:

step1.jpg

Step 1: Apply a layer of base coat. This gives the glitter something to adhere to, upping the longevity of your mani.

step2.jpg

Step 2: Apply a peel-off nail polish barrier to the surrounding cuticle.

step3.jpg

Step 3: Paint a generous amount of your favorite glitter nail polish onto the edge of the sponge.

step4.jpg

Step 4: Dab the glitter polish onto your nail with the sponge and repeat until you’re satisfied with the coverage.

step5.jpg

Step 5: Carefully peel off the nail polish barrier.

Step 6: Apply a generous layer of top coat to smooth out and lock in the glitter.

…And that’s it! You can finally achieve the accent nail of your dreams – life-changing, right?

Nailed It: Easy Try-Angles DIY Mani

❤️ By Jenn Shin

If you’ve been hemorrhaging your cash flow to a profesh nail tech every month, give your bank account a break and try this nail art DIY at home. The best part about this tutorial? You can customize it with any color or texture combo.

What You’ll Need:

  • Base coat
  • Two nail polish colors of your choice (We used Essie’s “Beyond Cozy” and China Glaze’s “For Audrey”)
  • Washi or painter’s tape
  • Scissors
  • Top coat

What You’ll Do:

1. Sweep on a thin base coat and apply two coats of a dense, finely-milled glitter polish starting at the cuticle. Let it dry completely.

Step1

2. Cut tiny triangles out of washi or painter’s tape. Place the tape over your cuticle and smooth out air bubbles for tight, clean edges.

Step2

3. Paint on two coats of your favorite opaque nail polish. Peel off the tape before the polish completely dries to avoid tacky strings and uneven edges.

Step3

4. Swipe on a top coat for a flawless finish.

Step4

And there you have it – the perfect pastel mani for Easter! (Chocolate bunny not included.)

And speaking of… Don’t miss our sitewide Easter sale!
