Five Shoes Perfect for Date Night

Even if the most exciting plans you have for Valentine’s Day involve going to see A Good Day to Die Hard with your mom, that doesn’t mean you can’t spoil yourself with some new heels. Below are five carefully picked pairs of heels that are perfect for a romantic date, but can definitely be worn for all sorts of other occasions, including work, play, and everything in between.

1. faux suede platforms, lace peep-toe heelsknotted bow platforms, glitter sole platforms, and perforated peep-toe pumps

What is your favorite pair?

Inspiration Gallery: Black and White

After seasons of saturated color, we’re craving simplicity in the form of black and white. But don’t think that a simple color palette means boring- as this gallery shows you, black and white can be intriguing, fashionable, and above all, fun.

Are you a fan of black and white? How do you plan to wear this hot hue combination?

DIY Shoe Clips: We Heart Bow-tiful Shoes

We all love a classic pair of pumps, but sometimes, we just want to spice them up a little. That’s why we’ve decided shoe clips are the most genius idea since sliced bread. Or at least since ombre hair. They are super adorable, you can make them in any shape or color, and they won’t damage your shoes. Just to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, we decided to do glitter heart clips and heart printed bow clips. So grab some glitter and ribbons, and get ready for a free shoe upgrade.

Note: Shoe clips work for flats, too!

2013 Grammy Awards: Comebacks, Dress Code Rebels & Prince

Oh, The Grammys- you’re just too much! The 55th Annual Grammy Award Show was full of musical collaborations, comebacks from people we thought were forever done with the music scene, and a lot of freaky celebratory antics.

Here are our highlights:

  • Miguel & Whiz Khalifa’s performance of “Adorn” was dang sexy (mostly on Miguel’s part)
  • Kelly Clarkson’s drunk very enthusiastic acceptance speech
  • Johnny Depp doing his transient-chic thing (and looking fine as usual)
  • Justin Timberlake’s very “rat-packish” performance of “Suit & Tie” with BFF, Jay Z
  • Sting & the crew getting real irie during their Bob Marley tribute (did you see dem long dreads?)
  • Frank Ocean’s quirky ways (“little kids in tuxes” acceptance speech & “Forest Gump” performance)
  • JLo’s leg-baring dress was amazing, but very Angelina Jolie circa so last year
  • Katy Perry’s “va-va-boob” dress
  • Jay-Z throwing shade all over The-Dream’s “swamp meet” hat
  • Jack White’s creepy all-girl band doing their polygamist thing on stage
  • Carrie Underwood’s psychedelic performance of “Blown Away” (ooh, light show!)
  • Prince’s swaggy strut across the stage (with a cane) to present “Best Record of the Year” to a very starstruck Gotye & Kimbra
  • The show should’ve ended there (with Prince)! Sorry LL Cool J & company #nodisrespect (love you Tom Morello, you killed it!)

What did you think of last nights Grammys? What was your favorite part?

2013 Grammy Awards: Our Predictions for Music’s Big Night

Unlikely anthems, possible one-hit wonders, and Skrillex? Yeah, this year’s Grammy Awards managed to cover all their bases. For those who aren’t in the know, this year’s awards will take place this Sunday (yes, we’ll be doing a recap) and LL Cool J is hosting. Other important info?  Jay-Z and Kanye West managed six nods each, Gotye is still riding high from last year’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”,  and some of our fave divas, including Adele, Jennifer Lopez, and Katy Perry, will be in attendance.  And while we know who will be there, as well as who’s nominated (check out the full list here), there is something we don’t know: who will go home with a trophy. But we do have some pretty good guesses. Check out our predictions and make sure to let us know who you think will win.

What do you think of our predictions? Who are you rooting for?

Inspiration Gallery: Pastel Colored Hair

If you haven’t already heard, it’s all about pastels this season. Makes sense, right? Springtime and pastels go together like hipsters and bow ties, like kittens and cuteness. But if the idea of slipping into lilac colored maxi dresses and sunshine colored chiffon blouses all season is a bit too girly for you, we’ve got a punky solution to your pastel precaution. How about rocking these soft, breezy hues in your hair? Sounds crazy? Crazy like a fox!

This look can be temporarily attained with clip-on hair extensions, chalk, or spray-on hair color. And for you daring divas out there, you can rock this permanently with the help of your fave hair colorists, a bottle of bleach, and a shit-ton of courage. We’ve been spotting this uber-cool hair trend all over the scene lately, and we’re thinking some of you out there might have what it takes to werq it. But if you’re still undecided on whether this hair trend is a yay or nay, we’ve compiled a bunch of photos of our favorite bloggers, models and celebrities (there are even pastel colored cats in there) to inspire you.

What do you think? Will you be going grey, pink, lilac or baby blue this season?

How to: Newsprint Nails

We all know newspapers have become a bit obsolete (thanks to the internet), but we’ve decided to re-purpose them for a fun mani. It just so happens that the ink used for newspapers is perfect for giving your nail a little text tattoo. Just make sure your parents are finished reading their favorite sections before you steal borrow their paper.

How to: Dress for a Super Bowl Party

In case you don’t follow sports, Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend. Naturally, we’ve been preparing by picking out the perfect cute and casual outfits to rock at all the amazing parties. And of course, we picked a color scheme that reflects the two teams playing (The SF 49rs who are red and gold and the Baltimore Ravens who are purple and black, so you can impress your friends).

The second we put the team colors on two of our models, they started to hash it out to decide who would win beforehand. Don’t worry, no one was actually hurt. We called it a tie between the two models, so you’ll just have to tune into the Bowl on Sunday to find out who really wins!

2013 SAG Awards: Red Carpet Fashion and Memorable Moments

Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards was full of fun, fashion, and heartfelt speeches from award-winning actors. Jennifer Lawrence’s wardrobe malfunction aside, everyone pretty much looked amazing. In case you missed the show, here are a few of our favorite looks and hilarious moments!

Who do you think was best dressed at the SAG Awards this year?

Inspiration Gallery: Creepers

There are plenty of 90s trends we’d love to leave in the past, but these funky shoes have crept right back into our hearts and onto our feet. Paired with other current trends like printed sweaters and feminine skirts, these totally rad shoes are given an updated look. We also think they are pretty awesome paired with reruns of 90s sitcoms. They might be making us a little bit nostalgic, but some things just never get old.

Here’s a little inspiration for styling your favorite retro shoes with modern trends!

How do you style creepers?

Happy Birthday, Alicia Keys!

If you looked up the definition of cool in the dictionary, you’d probably find a picture of Alicia Keys. The singer/songwriter has had us hooked on her catchy melodies, empowering lyrics, and fashion-forward sense of style for years. Needless to say, we were pretty excited to hear that she’ll be singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl this year.

So happy 32nd birthday, Alicia! Here’s to 32 more years of amazing performances and smooth style.

Microtrend: Galaxy Prints

If you were a fan of the hit 80’s/90’s fantasy sitcom, Out Of This World, you’re gonna love this trend! We started seeing these galaxy printed pieces a few months ago. But what started off as a few sprinkles of cosmic-coolness has recently gone mainstream. This totally nebular celebration of the universe is a great way to play with colors and add a little (extraterrestrial) life to your look. Take a look at our collection of all things galaxy and get ready to lose your mind!

1. mesh accent galaxy bodysuit 2. distressed graphic galaxy tank 3. galaxy leggings 4. galaxy print shorts 5. camo print tee 6. graphic tiger sweater

Have you tried the galaxy trend? Do you love it as much as we do?

Remix: Faux Leather Skirt Edition

You know when you completely fall in love with something, but you just don’t know how to wear it? It happens to all of us. We’re here to help you out, though. We’ve taken one of our favorite pieces right now, a faux leather mini, and styled it for a casual day of shopping and for a dressy date night. Since we’ve been totally loving big cat graphics and mint lately, we decided they should be incorporated, too.

Behind the Scenes + Sneak Peek: Punchy Corals, Bold Snapbacks, and Pops of Color

We should have known our most recent in-studio sesh was going to be fun: our resident makeup artist decided to play with color by adding a sweep of purple under our model’s eyes. Keeping with the bold color theme, our stylist decided to pair rich mustard with ivory, a true red hat with stark white, and oh yeah, she made sure to add lots of unexpected hues, including fuchsia, aqua, and coral. Anyways, check out some of our fave shots and let us know what you think.

Inspiration Gallery: Light Denim

After seasons spent wearing crisp and structured looks, we’re quite happy to slip into something a tad more casual. One of the best ways to do it? Light denim. It’s a super modern way to do denim, and it’s perfect for spring. Check out our gallery of stylish ladies in light denim and let us know what you think.

How to: Two-Tone Polka Dot Nails

Remember when our model, Emily, showed us how to do a spooky blood spattered nail for Halloween? We were so impressed by her nail prowess that we’ve been trying forever to get her to do another tutorial. We finally convinced her to share some nail genius with us, and she came up with one of our fave designs yet: a two-tone polka dot mani. Not only is the color palette perfect for spring, but the look is surprisingly easy. Wanna learn how to do it? Start reading.

Inspiration Gallery: Big Cat Graphics (Lions, Tigers, Leopards…)

We’ve always been fans of graphics, but most recently, there’s a specific kind of graphic that we’re going wild over. Tired of guessing? We love wild cats! We love their freedom. We love how regal they are. And we especially love the respect they demand with their silent stares and ferocious appetites. So we’ve been racing through this jungle we call the marketplace and snatching up every single thing we can find printed with big, chunky, in-yo-face graphics of badass cats. We’re talking lions, tigers, jaguars, pumas, leopards and cheetahs.

Not only are these fierce kitties huge in stature, but now they’re huge in the fashion world. Top design houses like Givenchy and designers like Marc Jacobs were some of the first to reveal their love for feisty felines. Months later, this trend has smoothly translated from the runway to the streets! This season is all about bringing out your inner wildcat. So grab some of our best bold kitty graphic pieces, and make sure it gets thrown into your rotation of trends-to-try this season!

And if you’re having a little trouble envisioning this trend on a real girl, like yourself, in the real world, we’ve compiled a wide selection of inspiration photos of our favorite street style bloggers doing their thing in big cat graphics.

Are you just dying to try the big cat trend this season? If so, we’ve got a great selection of cool cat pieces for you at GoJane! Shop Now!

Microtrend: The Return of Mint

Last spring, all things minty fresh emerged onto the fashion scene with a big, pastel bang. This year, mint is making its return in every shape and size imaginable. From shoes to watches to bags, we plan on being completely decked out in the cool hue this spring. Here are a few of our favorite minty picks.

Inspiration Gallery: The Half-Tuck

It’s probably pretty obvious that we spend a lot of time reading fashion blogs, and maybe that’s why we’ve noticed a trend that is sure to be huge in 2013: the half-tuck. Everyone, from It Girl bloggers like Leandra Medine (of The Man Repeller) to the queen of chic, French Vogue’s editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt, are always spotted rocking the half-tuck, and we think it’s time to get in on the trend.  And the best way to get started? By checking out our rad gallery, obvs.

Are you a fan of the half-tuck? Why or why not?

How to: Color Chain Link Jewelry

We’ve been loving rocking chain link jewelry with everything lately, but after a while, simple silver and gold links can leave us wanting more. More color, that is! We decided it was time to give new life to some of our favorite bracelets with a little colored Plasti Dip. After a few minutes of dipping and drying, we had a bold and colorful new trendy bracelet.

Here’s our finished look.

What you’ll need: Create Your Color Plasti Dip, Plasti Dip tint, an aluminum can, chain link metal jewelry, and a plastic spoon.

Tip: You can find Plasti Dip at most hardware, auto, and home stores.

Pour enough Plasti Dip to cover half of your jewelry into an aluminum can. This will allow you to save the rest for another project since you don’t need very much for this one. It should be about three inches high.

We decided to color our bracelet seafoam, but you can do whatever color you want. Whatever color you choose, pour the lightest tint you’ll need into the mixture first. Stir with a plastic spoon.

Mix in the next color, but only pour in a small amount at a time so your color doesn’t get too dark too quickly.

Mix in your final color. If you only need two colors, skip this. If the mixture isn’t quite the shade you want it to be, play with the colors a little always adding the lightest first. Stir the mixture thoroughly so you don’t see any streaks.

Slowly dip your bracelet into the Plasti Dip, lowering it a little more every 5 seconds. Then, slowly lift the bracelet out of the Plasti Dip in 5 second increments.

Hold your bracelet over the can for at least a minute to let the excess Plasti Dip drip off.

Hold your bracelet for a couple minutes to make sure it isn’t dripping anymore. It should start to solidify, but won’t be dry yet. If you plan to do a second coat, let your bracelet dry for 30 minutes before you dip it again. Once finished, hang your bracelet to dry for at least four hours (preferably more) before wearing.

Wear your bright, new jewelry!

How do you liven up your favorite jewelry?

P.S. Find the bracelet we used for this DIY here.

Inspiration Gallery: Single Sole Shoes

Still struggling to think of the perfect New Year’s resolution? We’ve got one for you: add more single sole shoes to your wardrobe. We know it’s probably not difficult for you to agree that you need more shoes, but one of our fave trends is the return of single sole heels, wedges, booties, and boots. For those not in the know, single sole shoes are shoes without a hidden platform. And while you won’t be able to reach the heights you can in a platform, single soles offer a few other perks. Specifically, the silhouette feels brand new after seasons of platforms, and we’re loving how ladylike they look. Still don’t believe us? Check out our inspiration gallery of single sole shoes- after seeing some of your most beloved celebs and style bloggers rocking ’em, you’ll change your mind.

Style Crush: Natalia Kills

With thick smudges of eyeliner and mile long legs clad in leather leggings, Natalia Kills’ style is equal parts sexy and dangerous. Oh, and covetable because let’s face it, we kind of want to own her entire wardrobe. And, just in case you haven’t heard of the talented British songstress, check out some of our fave images of Nadia, as well as the five pieces you need to get her look.

Trend Alert: Lions

Remember when we were all excited because we realized how freaking easy it was to copy Rihanna’s look? Our fave piece of her standout look was a chain link necklace with a lion charm. We should have known that the Barbados beauty’s fierce accessory was a hint as to what was to come. Specifically, lions are kind of a big deal this year, and as such, we had our stylist pick out six pieces that are super hot right now. Take a look and let us know what you think, okay?

1. oversized lion hoop earrings, 2. faux leather lion bracelet, 3. lion ring , 4. tribal square lion necklace, 5. embellished cap-toe flats, and 6. lion ring

How To: Britney’s “Scream & Shout” Hair

Fans of the BIG HAIR, DON’T CARE movement rejoice! The artist formerly known as “Bald Britney” has shown everyone that her no-hair-having-days are long gone. She’s embracing her regrowth and some of the finest quality hair extensions a pop princess can buy, and she’s taking this hair thing to a whole new level. If you haven’t already seen the video for Will.I.Am’s latest release, “Scream and Shout,” featuring Brit Brit, well then you’re missing out on the best blond bouffant since Brigitte Bardot’s iconic, sixties hairdo. And of course, staying true to our mission of jocking all things Britney, we’re gonna show you gals how to achieve this kickass bouffant hairstyle without the help of any additional hair pieces. All you’ll need are some basic skills, everyday bathroom essentials, and a whole lot of upper body strength. Warning: lots of teasing ahead…

Model is wearing: headband, cropped top & acid wash shorts

What you’ll need:

Materials: fine tooth comb, hair clip, head band & hair spray

Steps:

Start with hair that was washed the previous day.

Tip: Dirty hair is easier to style because the light build-up helps the hair hold shape.

Section your hair off into a rectangle. Start at your temples and move back to the crown of your head.

Clip that rectangle section of hair off to the front.

Take a 1 inch section of hair from your loose hair and spray with hairspray, starting from the root and working halfway up toward your ends.

Place your comb at the halfway mark and comb down towards your roots (towards your head). Repeat about 5 times, creating a matted mess.

The teased section of hair should be standing upright at the roots.

Release the hair from the clip and grab another 1 inch section. Repeat the teasing procedure until you have teased half of the rectangle.

At the halfway mark, take the sides of your teased hair and fan it out like a rainbow. Continue teasing 1 inch sections of the remaining rectangle and fanning out each section.

When you are done teasing all of the hair that was originally in the rectangle, smooth out the top layer of hair by lightly running your comb through it. Your hair should resemble a lion’s mane.

Take your headband and firmly press it back from your forehead to the top of your head.

It’s Britney, Bitch!

Trendy Celebrities are Layering Up

Summer may be long gone, but several celebrities and fashionistas have figured out how to wear their favorite summer styles in cooler temperatures. Of course, you could always add a coat, but that would cover up your pretty dress! Instead, try layering a button-up shirt, blouse, or tee under your favorite frocks. It will give your dress a cool-weather vibe that will keep you feeling warm and looking stylish. Here are a few of our favorite celebs rocking the layered trend.

How do you layer your dresses for cooler weather?

2013 Trends: What to Keep from Last Year

2012 may be over, but don’t clean out your closet just yet! Several of this year’s trends are going to carry you right into next year. And they’re going to be big. From 90’s nostalgia to nautical jewelry, you’ll be ahead of the curve for 2013.

tribal print two-fer dress, studded pumps, high-waisted skinny jeans, embellished chain link bracelet, striped polka dot mixed blouse

1. Leather: We know leather will always be around in shoe, purse, and jacket form, but this year, we’ve been loving all the leather in unusual places. Whether it’s used as an accent on a flirty dress or a pair of comfy leggings, we’re excited that leather has gone from the everyday to the unexpected.

2. Pointy toe shoes: As much as we love platforms, we’re excited pointy toe shoes are here to stay. Whether you love flats or heels, the sleek line of a pointed toe will help elongate your legs and add an extra dose of sophistication to your outfit.

3. High-waisted pants: We have a soft spot for all things 90s, so we’re pretty excited high-waisted jeans are going to stick around for a while. Plus, the retro cut is both flattering and fuss-free.

4. Chain Link: Chances are, most of the jewelry you own sits on a chain. But chains are no longer just for holding charms. Chain link jewelry has taken center stage as a statement piece all of its own. From necklaces to belts to bold prints, we’re glad this glamorous trend won’t be going anywhere soon.

5. Mixed Prints: Bold prints are perfect for making a statement, but mixed prints? Even better. We’ve been loving pairing unexpected pieces together this year, and we’re expecting to go even bigger, brighter, and bolder in 2013.

What was your favorite trend of 2012?
