Happy New Year, Janes! 3 Fashion Resolutions To Live By This Year

What up, Janes? Hungover much? Well, either way, we hope you all had a blast ringing in the new year last night. But now that 2014 is (literally) so last year, it’s time to focus on the next 365 days you’ve got ahead of you. (Or 364 1/2, depending on what time you actually got up today.) So, let us guess: This year, you’ve resolved to 1) live a healthier lifestyle, 2) spend your money more wisely, and 3)… travel more? (Ha, nailed it.) That’s great and all, but what about your fashion resolutions? (It’s a thing, trust.) If you haven’t made any just yet, check it:

Three Fashion Resolutions To Live By In 2015

1. Be bold. By definition, bold means: not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring. Apply this term to your fashion choices, Janes. Sure, playing it safe is, well, safe. But being bold is always better and is always in style. Your #normcore gear needs a break anyway.

2. Take the high road. This year, resolve to keep your standards as high as your _________. Yup, we’re leaving that last part up to you. But here are some of our suggestions: heels, hemline, neckline, waistline, etc. Whatever you decide on, make sure that it’s something new to your look. For example, if you frequent flats on the daily, give a good pair of pumps a whirl.

3. Get risky. Taking fashion risks ain’t always easy, but someone’s gotta do it. Instead of slipping on your favorite necklace or picking up your go-to handbag again, opt to sport something on the riskier side. Not sure how others will feel about it? It really shouldn’t matter as long as you’re into it. Plus, chances are that it’ll strike up a conversation with a stranger (a cute boy, perhaps?) somewhere down the road.

Say #BYE2014! 14 Of Our Fave NYE-Worthy Dresses

We did it, Janes! Gift-giving season is finally dunzo. And while we’re sure you’d love to just sit back, chillax, and binge-watch every single episode of The Mindy Project thus far, you do have one more major task to complete before the year ends, you know, in FIVE DAYS (WHAT?!). Allow us to phrase it in a question for ya’ll: do you know what you’ll be wearing for NYE? If your answer is some variation of the phrase “Awwww, crap!” then you’ve come to the right blog post. If you answered yes to already having a jaw-dropping ensemble in mind, well, then there’s a huge chance that you’ll be rethinking that decision once we’re through with you. (Hehe) Alright, alright, we’re just going to get straight to it…

Here are 14 of our fave dresses to rock when that ball drops. And rumor has it that these styles are up to 90% off! Enjoy.

Think you’re outta time? Noooope. Just head to GoJane to see how you can receive your ensemble on time.

And The Pantone Color Of The Year Goes To…

The Pantone gods have officially spoken, Janes. She’s sophisticated, she’s 90s grunge-inspired, and she’s 2015’s Color Of The Year. (Drum roll, please.) Allow us to introduce you to…

coloroftheyr4

No, it’s not that Indian dish you had last night (common mistake). But speaking of food… The new year’s hottest color may remind you of that wine stain on your favorite blouse (oops). Marsala, whose name literally derives from the sweet, dark, fortified wine made near Marsala,” is an earthy deep red hue that looks amazeballs on every skin tone. In contrast to 2014’s color, Marsala is perfect for anyone looking to add some spice to their look. The rustic, earthy, red-brown color has already taken over the red carpet (see above), and we have a hunch that it’s about to take over your entire wardrobe, too (lip color totally included).

Wanna get a headstart? Shop all things Marsala inspired now during our sitewide sale at GoJane!

Let The Festivities Begin! Chic Flats for Every Holiday Party

Got an irrational fear of toppling over the minute you slip on your sky-high stilettos for the evening? Samesies. And with the holiday season finally among us, we’re sure you’re already huffing and puffing at the mere thought of having to wear those babies all night, huh? We don’t blame you! It can get pretty scary up there, especially with a couple of Naughty Rudolphs in your system (hehe). Well, Janes, we have some really good news for you:

You can ditch your heels and rock a pair of party flats instead!

Yeah, we said it. Bejeweled, metallic, oxford, smoking, d’Orsay, and a million other styles are totally acceptable, too. Woah, did we just hear a universal sigh of relief? We feel ya’ll. So if you foresee a night (or three) filled with drinks, dancing, and debauchery, you’re going to want to take this post seriously. But if you’re still not fully convinced, then these street-styled ladies should do the trick. Warning: ultra chic #OOTDs ahead!

#WCW: 5 Reasons Why Anna Kendrick Would Make The Perfect Bestie

She has been in cheesy vampire movies, acted opposite George Clooney, is set to appear in Into The Woods alongside Meryl, and even successfully convinced boyfriends everywhere that a capella choirs are kind of cool (yup, he’s just as excited for Pitch Perfect 2 as you are). Prett-y major accomplishments, if you ask us. So, if you don’t know our #WCW by name just yet, then we demand that you invest some time in an Anna Kendrick movie marathon ASAP. But if you’re already familiar with this starlet’s work, then we’re sure that Kendrick is already on your list of celebrity bestie contenders (right on up there with MindyJ. Law, and Nikki Rich). Not convinced just yet? Alright, you asked for it…

Here are 5 reasons why Anna Kendrick would make the perfect bestie:

1. She loves to bake. #LBH, it’s hard to find a bestie who actually enjoys baking. Sure, there are plenty who’ll watch you do all the work, but nothing beats tackling that new Pinterest cookie recipe with a) someone you actually like and b) someone who actually cares about the difference between granulated and cane sugar. Well, lucky for you, Anna completely agrees. So much so that she’s been known to bake during any free time she has and even had a stint working in a pastry shop when she was in-between jobs (don’t worry, that only lasted two weeks).

2. She fangirls just as hard as we do. A, B, C, D, and E-listers… They’re all celebz in our eyes. So if you’re looking for someone to freak the eff out when you spot extra #13 from that one episode of Gossip Girl, leave it to Anna to fangirl right alongside you. Sure, she may have looked super casual chatting it up with Beyonce during the 2014 Grammy Awards, but based on both her Insta and Twitter accounts that night, she couldn’t even. We mean, she pretty much died. Like, R.I.P. Anna. And we totally respect that.

3. She’s a T-Bell fiend, and she’s got the blue box blues. Yup, you read that right. While we love an excuse to eat truffle-anything and pink Himalayan salt on everything, we’re completely satisfied with instant classics from time to time (AKA all the time). Well, not only does Kendrick love a good late night run to Taco Bell (who doesn’t?!), but Kraft Mac & Cheese is also one of her go-to meals. No, she doesn’t get paid to endorse Taco Bell, and yes, Kraft totally gifted her with a solid gold macaroni necklace for their appreciation.

4. She’s, like, really funny, guys. Wanna save some time figuring out if your current bestie is really the one? Here’s a hint: if he or she doesn’t make you laugh, then it’s never going to work. Though not a self-professed comedian, Anna Kendrick can make us laugh so hard in a way that leads us to believe that our ab workout is done for the day. Just spend an hour on her Twitter account if you don’t believe us. Oh, and here’s a little sneak peak of what you’ll be getting yourself into:

5. And, lastly, because she handled getting locked out of her apartment a lot like we would: (Hint: like a boss)

#ThrowbackThursday: Happy Thanksgiving Edition!

Today’s the day we’ve all been waiting for, Janes. It’s finally Thanksgiving!! And while we’ve already given you plenty of drool-worthy eye candy, some Turkey Day style tips, and, of course, a plethora of reasons to be thankful, we’re not quite done with all the giving just yet. So before you go stuffing your face with turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie, allow us to take you back to a much simpler time. (You know, before smart phones, adulthood, and the Internet.) Sit back, unplug, and listen up as we share with you…

5 ways you should throw it back on Thanksgiving:

FRANKLIN, LINUS, SALLY, CHARLIE BROWN, PEPPERMINT PATTY, SNOOPY AND MARCIE1. Watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Rather than spending countless hours watching crappy reality television before dinner is ready, take a moment (an hour and fifteen minutes to be exact) to relive the beauty and simplicity that is A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. There’s a reason this Peanuts special earned an Emmy and has been playing once a year for the past 41 years, but you’re going to have to watch it to find out why.

headdress52. Get your arts and crafts on. Remember the days of handprint turkeys and construction paper headdresses? Well, websites like Pinterest and YouTube have plenty of festive arts and crafts ideas that you and your family and/or friends can totally get into. You can even get a little competitive and see who churns out the best DIY creation. And if your headdress really rules, you may even be able to recycle it for Coachella 2015 (just sayin’).

pie3. Indulge. If you think back far enough, there was definitely a time when calorie consumption wasn’t something on your mind 24/7. So, just for today, ban words like “juice cleanse,” “paleo,” and “carbs” from the table because it’s about to go down. Enjoy every bite of everything you eat today, and don’t feel ashamed to take on a second plate or a second slice of pie. #YOLO!

give-thanks-blog-image4. Say what you’re thankful for. Rather than Instagram/tweet/Facebook what you’re thankful for, say it out loud. Sure, social media is a great way to get your message across to your 142 followers, but chances are that not everyone in your family is a social butterfly. And yeah, maybe you have 364 other days to express your gratitude for those around you, but why not today? On Thanksgiving? The day of thanks? We’ll let that one sink in a bit for ya.

pulling_wishbone_IIHIH5. Break the wishbone. Call us superstitious, but we wholeheartedly believe in the power of the wishbone. By partaking in this age-old tradition, you’ll have a 50% chance of having one of your wishes granted! New dress, shoes, handbag… Come to mama! But if you get the shorter end of the furcula this year, not to worry. There’s always next year, right?

Red Carpet Games: Our Favorite Looks from the Mockingjay Premieres

Tomorrow’s the day we’ve all been waiting for, Janes. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is finally back for another installment, and to say that we’ve all been waiting patiently would be, well, a lie (#sorrynotsorry). Yup, that’s right, we finally get to find out what Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and the rest of gang in Panem have been up to. So, in the spirit of competition (and, of course, to celebrate the release of the second to last film)…

We’ve ranked the Mockingjay leading ladies based on their recent red carpet premiere looks:

1st Place: Jena Malone (Johanna)

Hands down, Jena Malone’s red carpet looks blew the rest of the cast out of the water. In London, she donned a two-tone, modern, origami inspired number that was as beautiful as it was unique. In LA, she channeled her inner old-Hollywood starlet and showed us how to properly do monochromatic with both a red lip and a red dress. Breathtaking is an understatement for both occasions.

2nd Place: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss)

No white after Labor Day? Sorry, but that rule doesn’t apply to our BFF, Jennifer Lawrence. It’s no surprise that the down-to-earth leading lady preferred to keep things clean, simple, and au naturel at both premieres, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Both silhouettes are extremely flattering on the actress’ athletic build, and we love the life that Lawrence brings to each look.

3rd Place: Elizabeth Banks (Effie)

We gotta give props to Elizabeth Banks for taking on prints not once, but two times, on the Mockingjay red carpets. The London look screams elegant and ethereal, and while the LA look is borderline tapestry (AKA your grandma’s weird couch), it is the asymmetrical design that saves the day.

4th Place: Julianne Moore (President Coin)

While black is always a good idea, we wish that red carpet vet, Julianne Moore, would have taken more of a risk fashion-wise. It’s no doubt, however, that the numbers she wore were both elegant and red carpet appropriate, so we definitely give her points for keeping it classic and timeless. Buuuut they were just a little too safe for us in this case.

5th Place: Natalie Dormer (Cressida)

We really want to love both of Natalie Dormer’s Mockingjay red carpet looks, but they were just a little too, er, lukewarm for us. We definitely understand the vision of the mesh-meets-origami number on the London look, but the silhouette on the young starlet was just all wrong. As for the textured cut-out number in LA… We think the look would have been better at a midi length.

Microtrend: (Get To) Work Boots

In case you haven’t noticed, the 90s have had plenty of moments this year. From crop tops to overalls to jelly sandals, 2014 has been filled with fashion pieces that have been evoking some serious nostalgia everywhere. And just when we thought we’d had enough (and that our shoe closets couldn’t get any fuller), the change of seasons has brought us yet another epic throwback to rock: the lug-heavy work boot.

Worn on the likes of both women and men, the work boot is the perfect cold-weather statement shoe for a cool girl (ahem, you) looking to grunge up her look. Dresses, denim, leggings, joggers… We really can’t name an #OOTD that these versatile boots don’t go with. And so what if the construction dudes you walk by on your way to the office are sporting a similar look? We can pretty much guarantee that you’re doing it a whole lot better.

Ready to throw it back? Take some outfit inspo from some of our favorite celebs (and their kin!) workin’ it in work boots.

DIY: A-Meow-Zing Cat Ears (Also, Happy National Cat Day!)

It’s no surprise that we’re huge cat lovers around these parts, so when we found out that today is National Cat Day (not to be confused with World Cat Day — big difference), we thought what better way to celebrate than with a set of DIY cat ears? And while we could have easily gone the conventional route (boooooring), we decided to add our own little twist to ’em.

Purrrr-fectly paisley cat ears in 4 simple steps:

1

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A plain headband
  • Pieces of cardboard
  • A bandana
  • Adhesive (we used E6000)
  • A marker
  • A ruler
  • A pair of scissors

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Step One: Cutting out the ears. Using a marker, a ruler, and a piece of cardboard, trace your cat ears and cut them out. (Hint: The bigger, the better!) Once you have them cut out, trim the bottoms so that they are curved. This ensures that the ears lie flat on the headband. (Tip: You can trace the curve by lining up the corners of each ear with the headband, like in the second image above.)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Step Two: Wrapping the ears. Lay each ear on your bandana and trace a triangle around it. (We recommend making the triangle a little larger for extra coverage.) You’re going to need a bandana triangle for each side, so you should have a total of four pieces. Once you’ve cut out the bandana triangles, simply apply them to the ears using the adhesive, cutting and folding any pieces that stick out.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Step Three: Applying a base. For added support, apply a base to each ear using pieces of excess cardboard. Make sure that the cardboard base is equal to the width of the headband and the length of the bottom of each ear. After the adhesive dries, simply affix them to the headband using the adhesive. (Tip: When applying the ears to the headband, keep in mind that they will appear closer together when the headband is on your head, so it’s OK if they appear far apart when the headband is laying flat.)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Step Four: Wrapping the headband. As your ears are drying, cut as many strips as you need to wrap and cover up the remainder of the headband. Once you feel that the headband is sturdy enough, apply adhesive and wrap any exposed portions of the headband with the strips of bandana. Once you’ve allowed enough time for them to dry… Voila! Your cat ears should look something like this:

…And just in time for Halloween, too!

Remembering Oscar de la Renta + His Best Moments In Fashion

Oscar de la Renta, who died at age 82 this week, was more than just a household name. He was a legend. For multiple decades, de la Renta has dressed the likes of famed celebrities and politicians, such as Jackie Kennedy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Taylor Swift, and Hillary Clinton. But behind the sequins and the layers of taffeta was a man who was so much more. Consistently deemed a true class-act amongst his peers, de la Renta was considered a gentleman of the highest order and as being just as elegant as the clothes he made. He will not only be remembered for his iconic designs, but his words of wisdom regarding women and fashion will live on forever and ever.

Ahead, we’ve listed our favorite Oscar de la Renta quotes and a gallery of some of his best moments in fashion…

Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.

Walk like you have three men walking behind you.

Being well-dressed hasn’t much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense.

Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her.

What women have achieved in the last 50 years, I wish men would have achieved in the last 100.

I’ve lived every day to the fullest, and I’ve had a marvelous time. I’ve tried to be nice to the people I care about, and ignore the ones I don’t. I enjoy what I’ve done.

Getting (Un)Even: 4 Asymmetrical Must-Try Styles

There are many things in life that us girls prefer to be even. (Bangs, brows, and the wingtips of our eyeliner — just to name a few.) So when we first saw asymmetrical pieces hit the scene, we couldn’t help but feel a tad bit uncomfy at first sight. Well, we’ve come a long way since then, and because trying a new trend can be a little scary, we’re here to let you know that a little imbalance in your wardrobe can actually be a great thing. And if you think just for one second that you don’t have what it takes to get a little uneven… Girl, you are so wrong. Every single Jane can hop on board because taking on this trend only requires one key ingredient: confidence. In other words, you gotta own the look to make it convincing. Trust us, the results are gonna be amazeballs.

Ahead, check out 4 asymmetrical styles that you’ve gotta try:

1. Skirts – You’ve mastered the maxi skirt, the midi skirt, and the mini skirt, but what about something with a little unpredictability? Not everything in your life needs to be completely even, and the hemline on your asymmetrical skirt is certainly no exception.

2. Tops – Ever feel a little yawnsville with the basic tees and tanks you’ve been sporting lately? Step up your game by incorporating asymmetry on top the next time you leave the house. Whether it’s a one-shoulder number or a high-low option, you’re guaranteed to turn heads all day long.

3. Dresses – Forget the days when mom would be constantly adjusting your dress to ensure that it’s on straight. Slipping on an asymmetrical dress has the opposite effect, and we are so not complaining. If you’re looking for guaranteed chic, give this non-traditional take on a classic wardrobe piece a whirl.

4. Earrings – Thanks to the likes of Madonna and Janet Jackson, girls have been rocking the asymmetrical earring look for as long as we can remember. While the concept may be an old one, the styles are brand spankin’ new, so make sure you cop some updated pairs stat!

Heads Up! 5 Reasons To Wear A Hat This Fall

Cuddling by the fire, jumping into a pile of leaves, and pumpkin-flavored, well, everything. If you’re anything like us, then you’re fully aware that there are about a million reasons why fall is the best season ever. But our latest cold-weather obsession has got to be the hat styles that are totally having a moment right now. Why are we diggin’ this microtrend, you ask? Oh, let us count the ways! Literally.

Here are 5 reasons to wear a hat this fall:

  1. It’s a legit excuse to say “I woke up like this.” If effortlessly-chic is the look you’re going for, leave it to a hat, like a fedora or a beanie, to instantly take you there. Don’t believe us? Just wait until the compliments start to roll in.
  2. It’s a tried-and-true bed head repellent. Not diggin’ your ‘do this AM? Psh, that’s nothing that a chic hat can’t cover up. Plus, we luuuuurrrrve any excuse to ditch our straighteners in the morning.
  3. Fashion and function. Not only will your fall #OOTD be complete, but the right kind of hat can really keep that noggin of yours warm and cozy. (We’re all about multi-tasking over here.)
  4. It saves you time. #LBH, less hair styling in the morning equates to a plethora of possibilities. The most important? More time to snooze in your sea of blankets, obvi.
  5. Instant swag-appeal guaranteed. A woman who wears a hat on her pretty head instantly appears confident wherever she goes. It’s just science, guys.

5 Reasons Why We Love Karlie Kloss

We don’t know about you, but supermodel Karlie Kloss is killing it at twenty-two. So if you think the St. Louis native is new to the catwalk, you better think again. This girl-next-door has actually been doing the whole modeling gig for years (seven to be exact), and she has added plenty of major fashion accolades along the way. (Not only is she a Victoria’s Secret Angel, but she has also walked for Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Valentino, and Versace to name a few). Kloss is practically a vet at this point in her career. But just what is it about our latest crush that has the guys, the girls, and the designers swooning? We’re happy you asked…

Here are 5 reasons why we love Karlie Kloss:

1. The Walk. Dubbed “the panther,” Kloss’ fierce catwalk strut is one that simply cannot be forgotten. In fact, when Karlie was only sixteen-years-old (and only one year into her career mind you), she walked a total of 64 shows in a single season.

2. The Hair. It was the haircut heard around the world when Karlie chopped off seven inches of locks at the end of 2012. Her new look was such a hit that the New York Times actually started referring to it as “The Karlie.” Today, Kloss is still rockin’ the side-swept bangs and short, slightly layered hair, and we’re still just as obsessed with it.

k2

3. The Style. Sure, a top fashion designer can put her in the season’s sartorial best, but what about Karlie’s style on the sidewalks? Not to worry, Janes. She’s got the off-duty thing down pat. Karlie’s style can best be described of as classic and chic, never going over the top and always accentuating her best features.

4. The Family. Although she is constantly traveling the world and just recently purchased a place of her own in New York, Karlie remains very close to her family. The Klosses can often be seen on the supermodel’s Instagram account, and for her 20th birthday, she took her entire family on a trip to Denmark.

3

5. The Philanthropist. Kloss recently partnered with Momofuku Milk Bar to create Karlie’s Kookies, a wholesome cookie line in which a portion of the proceeds is donated to help provide nutritious meals to those in need. To date, over 500,000 meals have been donated. She also partnered with Warby Parker to create a line of sunglasses to benefit Edible Schoolyard NYC, an organization that is dear to Karlie.

Tuesday Tunes: Tove Lo

tovelo

Image c/o: radarmagazine.se

In anticipation of the release of her debut album Queen of the Clouds in a week, it’s only natural that we’ve chosen to blast Tove Lo’s EP Truth Serum around the office today. You may not know this Swedish pop singer, songwriter, and musician by name just yet, but you’ve probably already heard her hit single Habits (Stay High). You know, the one that’s currently #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 List. Yeah, that song. We’re just as obsessed as you are, trust.

And sure, maybe the lyrics conjure up the aftermath of a really shitty past relationship of ours, but we just can’t help but dance the pain away to this totally raw and heartbreaking track. Like the Courtney Loves and the Janis Joplins of the world, Tove is just being real and honest, which is exactly what we need in a genre that is typically known for being way too sugary-sweet (lookin’ at you, T. Swift and One Direction). And if the new album is anything like her hit single… Well, ya’ll better be prepared for Tove to blow up in the best way possible.

Counting down the days until the release of Queen of the Clouds like we are? Here are four things you should probably know about Tove Lo.

1. Think you’re saying her name correctly? Think again. This Swede’s name is actually pronounced “too-vey loo.” But since everyone in America is getting it wrong, she’s not mad about it.

2. Tove doesn’t just write her own songs. She has written tracks for Glee‘s Lea Michele, Cher Lloyd, Victoria Justice, and Icona Pop.

3. The 26-year-old went on an actual bender for her Habits video (the camera was attached to her via a harness). In other words, all of the drinks, the debauchery, and the tears were real, yo.

4. The new album will be broken up into three parts: “The Sex,” “The Love,” and “The Pain.” According to Tove:

You should put the first chapter on at the pre-party before going out Friday night. On Saturday, when you’re going with your friends to talk about what happened, put on the “Love” part in the car. And on Sunday, when you’re completely ruined from the weekend, you should put on “The Pain.”

4 Ways To Wear Booties, Like, Now

#LBH, Janes, it’s still pretty freakin’ hot outside. And while shopping is always a priority around this time of year (new season = new wardrobe, duh), we know how hard it is to imagine wearing fall gear when the temperature has been on the high side as of late. Well, ladies, we want to let you in on a little secret… Believe it or not, there is one fall essential that you can already start incorporating into your #OOTDs. We’re talking about a pair of booties, the perfect transitional shoe that you can wear now and later. Yeaaah, we’re pretty stoked about it, too.

If you don’t already know, a pair of booties is just like a pair of boots, only much shorter in height (typically stopping around your ankles). And because of their classic shape and style, it’s likely that the booties of your choice will go with most of the outfits you’ve already been rockin’ all summer. Not sure how to incorporate this trend today? That’s where we come in…

Here are 4 ways we’re wearing our booties right now:

1. Maxi Dress –  No need to put away your favorite maxi dress just yet, ladies. We’re definitely still wearing ours, except we’ve switched out our sandals and wedges for a pair of booties instead. If you do decide to go the bootie route (which you should), be sure to wear ones with a bit of height, like our Werking Girl Zipped Peep-Toe Booties or our Cutting Class Platform Booties. And when it gets chilly out, just add a scarf and a jacket. Easy as that.

2. Mini Dress – Since the sun is still blaring, you definitely have our permission to continue to show off those gams of yours. Slip on a mini dress (or skirt) and a pair of booties, like our Zip To It Pointy Toe Booties or our Tri Buckle ‘N Zip Booties, for the perfect day-to-night outfit. Once fall finally hits, just add a blazer and a pair of opaque tights to the mix.

3. Shorts – Don’t lie, we know you still can’t get enough of your favorite cut-offs! Well, do us a solid and ditch the sandals for a pair of booties instead. A flat or a low heeled bootie, like the Tough ‘N Chic Faux Leather Booties, are perfect for a daytime look, but you can also switch those out for something like the Double Take Chunky Peep-Toe Booties when the sun goes down. Fall-ify this look the same way you would with a mini dress.

4. Boyfriend Jeans – Okay, so maybe boyfriend jeans have become a year-round staple, whatever. There’s just something ultra chic about sporting them with a pair of booties! Be a game changer and go with a bold pair, like the Studded Queen Pointy Booties or the Twisted Classic Chelsea Booties, to flawlessly contrast the denim. Add some layers, like a scarf and jacket, when it gets cold. You know the drill.

Ladies In The Streets: Our Fave #OOTDs From NYFW

nyfwss

New York Fashion Week kicked off last Thursday, and we gotta say… We’re experiencing some pretty intense #FOMO around these parts. It’s not every day that fashionistas from all over the world come together to peep the upcoming styles and trends, and in their sartorial best, no less. And, sure, maybe our front row tickets to DVF’s show got lost in the mail (whatever), but it still would have been nice to walk through the streets of NYC with the fashion’s elite. Siiiiigh. Okay, okay, at least we get to couch it and eat ice cream directly out of the tub as we watch the shows via the Interwebz, are we right?! So, instead of mourning about what could have been, we guess we could channel our insane jealousy energy into a post that benefits us all.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up our favorite NYFW street style looks thus far. Loads of #OOTD inspo ahead, ladies. (And some eye candy, too!) Ready, set, swoon!

4 Transitional Shoe Styles That Are Flat-Out Chic

The transition from summer to fall can be a little, well, awkward. One moment you’re permanently posted in front of your AC vent, wishing you had a swimming pool to cannonball into, and the next, you’re getting lost in that pile of a million blankets that you call your bed. And while we really hate to say good-bye to our beloved warm-weather staples (tanks, cut-offs, sandals, etc.), at least we know that there is one shoe trend that will remain with us forever and ever, whether it’s hot or cold outside: a pair of trusty flats.

So maybe you’ve built quite the spring and summer flat collection. Good for you. But only a true fashionista knows that with every new season comes a new shoe collection to match (duh). So, ladies, start making some room in your closets…

Ahead, we’ve highlighted four flat styles that’ll make your transition from summer to fall a whole lot chicer.

Caged Flats: What we love most about the caged flat is that it provides just the right amount of coverage for your tootsies, while also showing just the right amount of skin. This option is perfect for those of you who spent all season in your sandals. (Guilty!)

Oxford Inspired Flats: If you’ve been dying to hop on that borrowed-from-the-boys tomboy trend, the oxford inspired style is the way to go. Sure, dudes have been rocking this style for as long as we can remember, but we gotta say… Janes do it a whole lot better.

Smoking Flats: Once a traditional slipper worn only indoors, we think it’s safe to say that the smoking flat has come a long way. What we love most about this stylish option is that it’s chic enough to wear both at work and during happy hour.

Sneakers: While there is many a flat styles out there, let’s not forget about a tried-and-true pair of sneakers. Whether you’re running errands, rushing from class to class, or just taking your pup to the park, a pair of sneaks is always a good idea.

Bag To School: 8 Unexpected Carryalls 4 The Cool Girl

Going back to school got you feeling some major blues? We don’t blame you. It’s tough to trade in your warm and cozy bed for that cold hard desk. (Not to mention the textbooks, the homework, and the exams… Blegh.) So if you plan on literally rolling out of bed that dreaded morning to, ya know, stick it to the man, allow us to stop you right there. We are not about to let our precious Janes make the worst first impression this semester! Okay, okay, we know how tough getting up for that 8:00 AM SOC class is going to be, but the least you could do (for now) is ditch that ratty old backpack for something refreshing and new to carry all of your essentials in. So, whaddya say…? We had a feeling you’d agree with us.

Ahead, we’ve chosen eight unconventional carryalls for the school cool girl (YOU, duh).

handbags11. Ur Mom Goes 2 College Denim Clutch: If your style screams vintage-meets-modern, you’re going to want to get your paws on this denim clutch. Not only is it large enough to fit your tablet (AKA your life), but the patchwork detailing totally pays homage to your high school days as MVP.

2.  Faux Leather ‘N Chains Oversized Handbag: Ditch the oversized canvas tote you’ve been lugging around, and say hello to this rad faux leather and chains handbag. We think it’s totally Olsen-twins-approved, and it’ll flawlessly take your #OOTD from day to night. Hell yeah.

3. Parfum Paris Perfume Bottle Box Clutch: Never forget that perfect Paris vacation you took over the summer with this perfume bottle inspired clutch. The best part? They’ll never know that you really stayed poolside in your parents’ backyard all season. Hehe, #sorrynotsorry.

4. Tribal Tapestry Fringed Bucket Bag: If you took a tip from all of the Coachella heads this year, then you’re fully aware that tribal is totally in. Don’t let the print on this bag fool you though. It’s loud enough to make a statement and also subtle enough to go with just about every outfit.

5. Rocker Studded Cross-Body Bag: Going for classic-yet-modern and compact-yet-practical this semester? Say hello to this rocker-chic bag. The studded detailing, the sleek pebbled faux leather, and the adjustable cross-body strap make for a perfect go-to for any girl.

6. 2-In-1 PVC Studded Bucket Bag: Clear PVC bags can get a little cheesy, we get that. But this see-thru baby is anything but. And not to worry, ladies, we put an extra removable compartment so that you can conceal at least some of your goods. (You know, like tampons and those snacks you’re not looking to share.)

7. Pyramid Studded Mini Backpack: If you absolutely have to sport a backpack this semester, do us a solid and make sure it’s this one, alright? The studded, mixed metallic detailing is just too badass to pass up. Plus, you can totally wear it on the weekends, too.

8.  You’re A Hoot Owl Faux Leather Handbag: They say that the early bird gets the worm, but we think whoever is ballsy enough to rock this bag will. The owl-inspired metallic detailing will not only get you noticed, but it’s also the perfect conversation starter. Hey, you never know who you’re going to meet on that first day.😉

Perfect Pairings: 5 Summer Sandals + Their Delish Counterparts

Remember all of those countless hours you spent at the gym pre-summer, trying to build those abs of yours? Well, since you’ve already bid adios to those days (until after summer, of course), don’t you think you deserve to indulge just a teensy bit? Aw, c’mon, one sweet treat (or, ya know, four) won’t undo that chiseled six-pack you’ve been flaunting all summer long. In fact, maybe your sugar-deprived body could use the rush (just sayin’). So if you’re ready to finally give into that craving of yours, keep this sartorial tip in mind: what you eat should definitely match with what’s on your feet. (You know, for selfie purposes.)

Need a little inspiration? Ahead, we’ve chosen five summer sandal styles and paired them with their delectable counterparts. The best part? They’re all on sale!

popsiclePopsicle: Ahh, the popsicle, summer’s beloved BFF. The two practically go hand-in-hand, are we right? And while many a sandal would look great with this classic refreshing treat, we’ve chosen our Mesh ‘N Shine Thong Sandals to complete the rainbow inspired look.

red velvetRed Velvet Cupcake: #LBH, there’s something sexy and sultry about a red velvet cupcake. In fact, we could stare into its deep red hue all day… But we’d rather scarf it down instead. Pair this coveted cupcake with our Metallic Accent Gladiator Sandals for an ultra luscious look.

macaronFrench Macaron: We bet you can’t just have one itty-bitty French macaron. And hey, we don’t blame ya. Take it from us and pair these pastel-colored pretties with our Reap What You Bow Jelly Sandals. You’ll be feelin’ like a modern-day Marie Antoinette in no time.

ice cream cookieIce Cream Cookie Sandwich: What’s better than vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies…? Yeah, we got nothing. Pair this dynamic duo trio with our Crisscrossed Low Wedge Sandals for a ferosh take on an outta-this-world treat.

donutDonut: Haven’t you heard? Donuts are the new black! And while we love trying out the latest trendy options (cronuts, wownuts, etc.), a classic sprinkles-all-over donut is still our favorite go-to. We’ve paired this versatile dessert with our Metallic Touch Gladiator Sandals for a look that is downright delish and adorable.

How To Wear: Body Chains

If you’re anything like us, then you’re a firm believer in the idea that chain-ge is good. And with the end of summer rapidly approaching (say it ain’t so!), now’s as good a time as any to start implementing a bit (or a bunch) of it into your wardrobe. Enter the bodacious body chain, a summer staple seen on the likes of Beyonce, Vanessa Hudgens, Kendall Jenner, and Bad Girl RiRi herself.

So what is it about these layered, shimmery goods that everyone loves so much? Well, first off, it’s the perfect way to subtly add a bit of chic-shine to your outfit. Second, it’ll totally accentuate your hot bod by bringing attention to those abs you’ve been working on. And third, well, we’re into anything Queen Bey is into, #justsayin.

Here are three surefire ways to wear a body chain:

1. Over a swimsuit. Whether you’re a bikini babe or a one-piece kind of gal, a body chain will easily complement your beachside or poolside look without looking like you’re trying too hard. Our advice: Go for a chain that’s on the simpler side (like the Circular Faux Jewels Body Chain), especially if you plan on actually getting into the water.

2. Over (or underneath) a cropped top. When it comes to fashion, think of your body as a canvas. And since a cropped top is only covering your top half, why not add a little something-something to drape down the bottom half? You really can’t go wrong with this next-level look. Our advice: Keep the layering around your neck at a minimum. Instead of throwing on an extra necklace, try a couple of rings and bracelets instead.

3. Over a dress. Nothing gets a conversation going (mostly compliments, obvi) more than a body chain over a dress. It’s not only beyond chic but also very unpredictable, so take pride in the fact that you decided to step it up a notch that day. Our advice: Go with a basic colored dress to really make your chain pop, like a sleek #LBD.

Ahead, a collection of body chain inspiration shots to get those sartorial juices flowing.

How do you wear your body chain? We want to know! Send us the link to your #OOTD in our comments section below.

Microtrend: Tribal Prints

tribal2

It’s the middle of summer, and you’ve exhausted all of your go-to pieces for the season? We totally feel you. Dressing appropriately for Mr. Golden Sun can get pretty monotonous. You can only wear your favorite sundress or a tank and denim cut-offs so much, are we right? So before you become a repeat offender again, hear us out. You, too, can break free from this summertime style rut. But how, you ask?  Three words, ladies: just add tribal.

Okay, so you probably already have a couple of tribal inspired pieces in your closet (we’re all fashionistas here, obvi), but what we love most about these warm-weather prints is that new styles, colors, and variations are constantly being churned out each day. (No, really, just check out our new stuff, and you’ll understand.) What does this mean for you? Well, not only will it be nearly impossible to show up to that BBQ wearing the same tribal printed skirt as your frenemy, but the days of sartorial slumpin’ will be long gone (well, at least until next season). Ganado, chinle, ikat, tapa… Whichever tribal print you fancy is guaranteed to have summer written all over it. And hey, don’t you still have a summer bucket list to attend to? But before you start planning those rest-of-the-season outfits…

Keep in mind these three tips for doing tribal right.

  1. Pace yourself. When one slips on a tribal inspired clothing piece, it’s only natural that you add a fringe vest, a feather headband, and a pair of moccasins to complete the look, right…? WRONG! #Sorrynotsorry, but the goal is too look effortlessly chic, and not like you’re getting dressed for a costume party as old-school Ke$ha or Pocahontas. Which brings us to our next tip…
  2. Keep it simple. Tribal prints are a statement in and of themselves, so be sure to keep the rest of your ‘fit on the simpler side. For example, if you decide to don a tribal printed kimono (great choice, BTW), go for some basics underneath, like a pair of boyfriend jeans and a solid white tee. But if you must mix prints like the risk taker that you are (you go, Glen Coco), stick to stripes or plaids of similar color palettes, capiche?
  3. Add some texture. Whether it’s something shiny and metallic or an edgy leather accent piece, a bit of texture never hurt anybody. In fact, we highly recommend it with your tribal prints. Some texture will not only liven up the playful print of your choice, but it’ll also show that you put a little extra effort into your ‘fit for the day.

Tuesday Tunes: Jenny Lewis

They say that good things come to those who wait. Well, it’s been six whole years since our favorite indie music queen, Jenny Lewis, has churned out a solo album, and we gotta say… “They” were so freakin’ right.

Jenny Lewis’ third solo album The Voyager (co-produced by Ryan Adams and Beck) officially drops today, but #TBH, we’ve been grooving along to these sweet tunes since last week (Thanks, NPR!). If you’re familiar with the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman’s work (commonly described as a mixture of alt-country, pop, and indie rock), then you’re completely aware that the red-headed songstress tends to dig reaaaal deep and, as a result, brings out all kinds of feels when you’re listening or belting along. Well, this much-anticipated album is certainly no exception.

While the entirety of The Voyager may very well be Jenny’s best (seriously, no foolin’), there are a few gems throughout the album that really strike a chord or two within us. The first being the album’s upbeat opener, Head Underwater, which proves to be Lewis’ official declaration of resurgence after dealing with “one of the most difficult times” of her life. She sings, There’s a little bit of magic; everybody has it. There’s a little bit of fight left in me yet. (Damn, are we happy to have her back.) The next is the album’s first single, Just One Of The Guys (star-studded music video below), which not only has Beck written all over it, but also captivates exactly what it’s like for the 38-year-old to be, well, a lady without a baby. She’s Not Me tells the story of a past love gone awry and features just the right amount of Lewis with a hint of Fleetwood Mac. While the song’s story may leave you mourning over an ex, it is Love U Forever that will quickly remind you of the crazy-quirky love that you have now (phew!). Lastly, the album closes with the title track (and, in our opinion, the glue that holds it all together), The Voyager; a perfectly melodic ending to a heartbreaking-yet-heartfelt piece of work. Needless to say, if you don’t already love J. Lew like we do, you’ll certainly develop a major crush after you’ve given this soulful album a listen.

Haven’t had enough of Jenny Lewis just yet? Here are 4 things you probably didn’t know about her.

  1. She’s a huge fan of hip-hop and boxing. When Lewis was 10, late actor Corey Haim gave her her first cassette tape with Run-D.M.C. on one side and the Beastie Boys on the other. She’s been hooked on the genre ever since. As for her love for boxing, Lewis is known to live tweet her support for the Pac-Man himself, Manny Pacquiao, during his matches.
  2. She’s a former child star. Lewis started as a commercial actress in a Jell-O commercial and then later starred in late-80s classics such as Troop Beverly Hills (as fellow redhead Shelly Long’s daughter) as well as The Wizard (alongside The Wonder Years alum Fred Savage).
  3. She wrote and produced a Disney song. Yup, that’s Jenny’s voice you hear on the Bolt soundtrack singing Barking At The Moon.
  4. She’s got some famous friends. As evidenced by Lewis’ hilarious music video for Just One Of The Guys, Lewis is BFFs with some pretty talented Hollywood actresses. You can watch Kristen Stewart, Anne Hatheway, and Brie Larson in drag lip-syncing to the song below.

#ThrowbackThursday: R U Jelly?

Flashback to nineteen-ninety-something. You’re chillin’ on the monkey bars, discussing crayon colors and Snack Packs, when your BFF runs up sporting the sweetest looking shoes you’ve ever laid your four-eyes on. They’re clear, they’re sparkly, and they’re made of jelly (well, sorta). And instantly, you fell in love. Sigh. Yup, we all remember where we were when we spotted our first pair of jelly sandals. And while we managed to outgrow those suckers in less than two years, they still remain as one of the most iconic fashion pieces of our childhood (right on up there with overalls, light-up sneaks, and scrunchies).

We bet you’re wishing you could squeeze your tootsies into a pair right now, don’t ya? Well, honey, it’s your lucky day, because we’re bringing you back in the best way possible. In honor of #ThrowbackThursday, we present you with a collection of jammin’ jellies that your adolescent self would have been totes, well, jelly of. Alright, alright, we’ll cut the nostalgia and allow you to start shopping already. Have at it, you 90s-kids-at-heart! Microtrend: Summer Shorts

summershorts

From left to right: Sporty French Terry Shorts, Acid Wash Jogger Shorts, Knit Denim Cut-Off Shorts, Neon Of Ur Business Shorts

Sun worshippers, rejoice! With the summer season in full swing, your favorite warm-weather microtrend of the year is officially back and ready for action. Yup, we’re talking about a pair of leg-lengthening, gam-glowin’, booty-poppin’ summertime shorts. Whether you prefer basic or printed, lightweight or denim, high-waisted or low-rise, one thing is for sure… The outfit possibilities are endless! (Not to mention, your legs will be thanking you for the much-needed exposure). But before you go baring those sexy stems of yours all over town…

Keep in mind our list of dos and don’ts when wearing a pair of summertime shorts:

  1. Do try ‘em in white. You don’t have much time to wear white during the 365 days of the year, so if you’re not much of a white pants kind of girl, take a risk and try a pair of shorts in white (or any other bold color or print for that matter).
  2. Don’t wear ‘em too short. So you’ve been squeezing in an extra set of squats at the gym? Good for you. But if your shorts are as short as your skivvies… Well, you might want to add a couple more inches to your inseam. Trust us, you don’t want to attract that kind of attention.
  3. Do consider a tan. To each his own on this tip, but a little color never hurt anyone, #justsayin. Plus, it’s a great excuse to lay out by the pool all day, don’t you think? Just don’t forget the SPF!
  4. Don’t wear knee-length footwear.  We totally get that you love to make a fashion statement where ever you go. But wearing shorts with tall footwear, like knee-high boots, tend to make one’s legs appear, well… short. (Yeah, that’s one word we don’t want used to describe our stems either). The only exception? Gladiator sandals!
  5. Do dress ‘em up. When the sun goes down and it’s #GNO, feel free to slip on a blouse and a light jacket atop your shorts and finish the outfit off with a pair of heels. We know you love your #LBDs and skinnies for nights like these, but you and everyone around you will appreciate the refreshing look.

Style Crush: Mindy Kaling

MindOnMindy

Whether you know her as Kelly Kapoor on The Office (RIP) or as Dr. Mindy Lahiri on The Mindy Project, one thing is for certain… We’ve got a maaajor style crush on Ms. Mindy Kaling. Actress, author, writer, comedian, director, and producer…  We know what you’re thinking: Is there anything that this woman can’t do?!? Ha, probz not. And as if Mindy’s list of titles isn’t long enough, she’s recently taken on the role of fierce fashionista as evidenced by her #OOTDs both on and off the red carpet. Moschino, Thakoon, Fendi, DVF, Marc Jacobs… You name it, Mindy has probably rocked the hell out of it.

But what we love most about our newest crush is that she continuously defies the expectations of a woman (and a minority, no less) working in showbiz – an industry that is not only notorious for highlighting who you know rather than what you know, but also one in which she could have easily been overlooked. And #TBH, she is killing it. Just how did she get to be the H.B.I.C., you ask? Well, it’s simple, so listen up you aspiring [insert dream job here]: she studied hard in high school, buckled down and graduated from Dartmouth College, and worked her butt off to make her dreams come true. In a nutshell, Mindy can blame her success on passion, talent, and hard work. And for that, Mindy, we commend you. (And we freakin’ love you, too!)

If you haven’t already fallen for Mindy Kaling, here are five reasons that’ll make you a believer:

1. At the age of 24, Mindy joined The Office as the only female writer on a staff of eight. She went on to write over 20 episodes, including the one where [SPOILER ALERT] Jim and Pam wed at Niagara Falls. (Tears everywhere, we know). What’s Mindy’s most recent gig, you ask? She currently writes, produces, directs, and stars in her own network television show, The Mindy Project. Bam.

2. The most awkward wardrobe fitting at the Vogue offices where Mindy says exactly what she and everyone else are thinking.

3. Mindy’s game changing remarks about body image that make us want to go for that third slice of pizza because, well, YOLO.

4. Her commencement speech for the Harvard Law Class of 2014 where she not only makes us laugh, but also manages to charm the pants right off of us.

Here are the highlights just in case you’re at work. (You’re welcome).

5. And lastly, both of Mindy’s contributions to the social world: her Twitter and Instagram accounts. WARNING: Before you head over, be prepared to spend an hour or more on each page. She’s that cool. #Justsayin

What’s Your Type: Bag Lady Edition

Let’s face it, ladies. Your go-to handbag has seen better days. Sure, it’s still functional… Until one day your handle breaks or that busted seam finally turns into a big fat hole. (Been there, done that). We get it, you’ve loved your little (or big) bundle of joy for years now, and the thought of going your separate ways makes you a little depressed. If that’s the case, it may very well be time to move on (or at least give your baby a much needed break). So whether you store your entire life or just a few things in your bag, there is a new and improved one out there for each and every lifestyle. Just sit back and allow us to help you take that next step. We promise it’ll be worth it.

Top: Faux Leather Textured Satchel, Middle: All Day Everyday Bag, Bottom: Textured Faux Patent Leather Satchel

Satchel – Whether you’re a working woman or just someone who likes the finer things in life, the satchel is the perfect daily companion. Its sturdy structure and spacious interior (often with compartments for things like your phone and keys) allow one to stay organized throughout the entire day. We’ve all had that moment when we’ve had to pull out everything in our bag just to find one item. Well, with the style and space of a satchel, you may just never have that problem again.

Top: Feeling Quilty Purse, Middle: Triple Compartment Crossbody Bag, Bottom: Fringe N Chain Foldover Handbag

Crossbody – The crossbody bag is perfect for the girl who doesn’t dig the discomfort of a large bag but knows that she’s gotta carry one all day. Its small to medium size only allows for just the daily essentials and wraps across the body for comfort and ease. What we like about the crossbody bag is that it gives us the option to use both of our hands for instances like carrying groceries from the car to the apartment or even rocking out at a concert.

Top: Faux Leather N Chains Oversized Handbag, Middle: Oversized Beach Totebag, Bottom: Aztec Print Totebag

Totebag – Ahh, the totebag. Your boyfriend may hate the fact that you carry a little too much throughout your day, but so what? You’re a girl who likes to literally just throw things in your bag and go, and that’s totally okay. In fact, we’re sure your friends will be thanking you when you have an assortment of chapsticks for them to choose from. We do, however, recommend that the totebag you choose have straps long enough to wear on your shoulder for comfort.

Clutch – If you’re the kind of girl who prefers fashion over function, the clutch has your name written all over it. Often small in size, the clutch only carries just a couple of key items, like one’s important cards, keys, and phone. You may have to forego a wallet, but we think you’ll survive. Because of its small stature, one can easily make a statement with the type of clutch that they choose (think textures, studs, bold colors, etc.). If you have the option, try to choose one with a wrist strap or a removable crossbody strap for added versatility.

Backpack – Trust us when we say that backpacks are not just for students anymore. If you’re someone who likes to carry a laptop or a tablet on you or your plans include heading towards a flea market for the day, a spacious and stylish backpack just may be the bag for you. Our recommendation for this bad boy? Carry a bit of confidence with you. You may receive some slack for rockin’ a backpack to work, but it’s better to stand out than blend in, right? Right.

Style Crush: Dakota & Elle Fanning

You know the Olsens, the Kardashians, and the Knowleses, but there’s only one set of sartorial sisters that we’ve been coveting lately. This talented pair of Georgia-born ladies need no introduction, because, well, you’ve probably already seen their work in the past. I Am Sam, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Man on Fire, War of the Worlds, and Super 8 are just a few of the critically acclaimed films that Dakota and Elle Fanning have touched and, very naturally, turned to gold. Not to mention they’re total BFFs with some of fashion’s biggest players, such as the Rodarte sisters, Marc Jacobs, and the ice queen herself, Anna Wintour.

While we could only dream of accomplishing one of the aforementioned achievements, the Fanning sisters have truly proven their worth in Hollywood and all before the age of 21 (Elle is only 16, while Dakota is 20). Needless to say, we’re huge fan-nings around these parts (bad joke, we know), and we can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo will do (and wear) next. So to properly celebrate Dakota and Elle’s continued success, as well as the release of Night Moves (starring Dakota opposite Jesse Eisenberg) and the much-anticipated Maleficent (starring Elle as Princess Aurora opposite Angelina Jolie)…

We’ve rounded up six things you probably didn’t know about the Fanning sisters:

  1. Their Hollywood success started over a decade ago. Dakota is the youngest person to ever be nominated for a SAG award at the age of 7 for her portrayal in I Am Sam, while Elle attended her first red carpet event at the age of only 3½ years old.
  2. Both sisters worked with Spielberg at the age of 12. Coincidentally, Dakota worked on War of the Worlds at the young age, while Elle was 12 when she starred in Super 8.
  3. They have acted in the same film but never in the same scene. Elle played a younger version of Dakota’s character in both I Am Sam and Taken, and the two voiced sisters for My Neighbor Totoro.
  4. They go by their middle names. While Dakota’s full name is actually Hannah Dakota Fanning, Elle’s is actually Mary Elle Fanning.
  5. These ladies are royals. (No, really.) According to Ancestry.com, both girls are descendants of King Edward III. The pair also share a common ancestor with Kate Middleton – King Edward I.
  6. Dakota is a huge Hello Kitty fan, while Elle is obsessed with the late, great Marilyn Monroe. Don’t believe us? Check out Dakota’s Instagram page on which she blatantly describes herself as an “Actress with a crazy Hello Kitty obsession!” Elle’s obsession with the fallen star is pretty serious. She even purchased her face cream and powder at an auction and keeps the memorabilia in her room.
