Let’s be real. The summer season and road trips go together like peas and carrots. It could be something as simple as a daytrip to the beach with your squad, or as complicated as a long-haul drive cross-country. Either way, the highway is open for adventures.

But the most important part of all is deciding what to pack. In our opinion, dressing for a road trip is all about wearing threads that are breathable. Luckily, you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort. So, make a playlist and get ready to sit shotgun and navigate because here are five style essentials we always pack on a road trip!

Flats + Sandals: The last thing anyone wants to do on a road trip is fuss with heels and enclosed shoes with lots of closures. Easy flats, slide sandals, and elastic sandals make it a cinch to exit the car for roadside photo ops and bathroom breaks.

Backpacks + Carryalls: You’ll have to stow all of your snacks, iPad, and sunscreen somewhere! Keep your hands free for short adventures with a functional backpack or use a carryall to tote everything plus the kitchen sink.

Stretchy Bottoms: Constricting denim shorts and hours spent in a car? It’s not an ideal combo. Wear stretchy knit shorts as a flattering and comfy alternative instead.

Light Jacket: Nights out on an epic road trip call for a light jacket as temperatures cool. Try everything from a dressy lace moto jacket to a re-purposed button-up shirt as an extra layer.

Sunnies: Last, but definitely not least, you’ll need a pair of sunnies. Whether you’re driving or chilling in the passenger seat, you’ll need to keep your eyes stylishly protected from the sun’s glare.
