The 2012 Met Gala: A Recap of the Looks That Got Us All Talking

It’s been a busy week for fashion; on Sunday we saw stylish gals rock hats that could potentially pull double duty as spaceships for the Kentucky Derby and last night was the 2012 Met Gala. Often referred to as “the Oscars of fashion”, the Met Gala is a chance to show off your chicest couture and rub elbows with some of fashion’s biggest stars, including Anna Wintour, Zac Posen, and Miuccia Prada. We’ve assembled some of our fave trends and looks, including the ones that made us clap our hands in joy, the ones that left us scratching our pampered coifs, and even a few that we’re still trying to figure out. Oh, and make sure to scroll all the way down to get a 360° view of Beyonce’s daring Givenchy gown.

Long Dresses with Sleeves:

(Chanel Iman in Tom Ford, Caroline Trentini in Olivier Theyskens, and Lily Collins in Valentino)

Short and Sweet Dresses:

(Kristen Wiig in Stella McCartney, Joan Smalls in Balmain, Kate Bosworth in Prada)

Serious Sparkly Sheaths:

(Lana Del Rey in Joseph Altuzarra and Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe)

Of course, there were a few looks that inspired seriously heated debate, including:

(Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row and Michelle Dockery in Ralph Lauren)

(Christina Ricci in Thakoon)

(Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello and Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen)

And now for the dress that proved Queen Bee is still a mah-jorly fierce diva:

(Beyonce in Givenchy)

Admittedly, some people have expressed reservations about Beyonce’s bootylicious gown. In fact, there’s been some pretty intense debate in the GoJane office! But, what we need to know is, what did you think of the looks from the 2012 Met Gala, including Beyonce’s?
